Playful Petals

Hello!  I'm Corey Yoder, you will usually find me blogging over at Little Miss Shabby.  Today, I'm excited to be sharing with you, here, about my newly released book, Playful Petals.

Applique is something that has been near and dear to my heart since I started making quilts 15 years ago.  It was always one of the elements that I was drawn to and utilized, in even my first quilts.

Over the years, I have been constantly surprised how many quilt makers are intimidated by applique.  It seems that there is either a "love it" or "scared to try it" mentality surrounding applique.

And, really, I want everyone to love this craft as much as I do!  My book, Playful Petals, is a wonderful introduction, using simple methods, into the world of applique.  I set out to create a book that allowed the applique to shine and that simplified the process so anyone can feel confident trying it.  There are no reverse templates or the need to add additional seam allowances to any of the pieces.  The piecing is also kept simple to allow you to focus on the applique.

So, I'm a pillow gal.  Anyone who has visited my blog has seen the plethora of pillows on my couch.  Much to my husband's dismay--who needs to sit on that couch anyway! =)

Each of the quilts in Playful Petals features an accompanying pillow. Each pillow pattern uses the same techniques as the quilt.  This not only allows you to try each pattern out on a small scale before committing to it in a whole quilt but, it also allows you to practice your applique skills on a quick finish project.  As a mother of two, sometimes I really need that instant gratification that making a quick pillow can provide!

Precuts.  Need I say more?  As Moda Fabric lovers, we all know the joy of a precut! =)  Fabric requirements for all of the quilts in Playful Petals are given using both precuts as well as cut yardage.

Thank you so much for listening to me talk for just a bit about my book and love of applique!  I hope you ask for Playful Petals at your local quilt shop and begin to love applique as much as I do. =)
